In family day care we welcome families into our homes, form close connections, and walk alongside them through many seasons of life. Over time, those relationships can grow into something more than just professional—and while that connection can be a beautiful strength of family day care, it can also make it hard to know where the boundaries are, or how to hold them. I was a family day care educator—just like you. I experienced firsthand the emotional weight of navigating complex relationships with families, the pressure to be available at all times, and the challenge of saying “no” when every part of me wanted to support and nurture. I gave a lot of myself in those moments—sometimes too much. And over time, that took a toll. I found myself burnt out, overwhelmed, and unsure of how to hold firm boundaries without feeling like I was letting someone down. This course was born from that journey. From the lessons I learned the hard way, and from the personal and professional growth that followed. I’ve seen how common it is for educators to feel unsure, overwhelmed, or even burnt out when boundaries start to blur. We want to help, to care, to support—and sometimes that means we say “yes” when we really needed to say “not this time.” So many educators in FDC face similar challenges, often quietly, and with little support. That’s why this course exists: to give you space to reflect, grow, and feel supported.
